Publishing and writing career

Cheryl is an award-winning writer who has written articles,
essays, intros, books and plays.

She has had several plays produced on the London fringe to acclaim
and achieved her MA in Playwriting at Birmingham University. She won
the Croydon Warehouse International Playwriting Competition and her work
was longlisted for the Bruntwood prize.

Cheryl founded Aurora Metro Books in 1990 and was mentored by

Ros de Lanerolle of the Women's Press and Carole Spedding of
Feminist Book Fortnight. The company has won many awards see Awards list below.

As a publisher she has commissioned a diverse range of more than 200 titles and edited over 100 books. Her work has been recognised both at the Independent Publishers' Guild where Aurora Metro Books was twice shortlisted for a Diversity Award and by ITV's National Diversity Awards, which shortlisted Cheryl for a Lifetime Achiever Award in 2019 and as Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022. She has published the work of over 300 authors from around the world
including translations from over 20 languages.
